At the other end of the scale Colum Slevin, over 40s’, fought a brave battle at semi final loosing by a narrow gap. Colum won a Bronze as well.

"Table Tennis is a sport for people of all ages and Doris De Low, who is ninety-five years old, is still going strong. She was the oldest volunteer on duty at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and during the break in proceedings played former Australian international Paul Pinkewich".

"My mother is playing table tennis - hope I am still alive at 94."

Dorothy De Low, New South Wales, Australia.
Dated 26th Dec, 2004.

Dorothy was the winner of World Veteran Championship over 80's, which was held in RDS in Dublin in 1992. I met the lady while playing in the World Veteran Championship in 1992. My wife Therese and Dorothy became very good friends. Since then we keep in touch with each other.

Following is an extract from the email received from Peter De Low, Dorothy's son, on 26th Dec 2004.

"Pete's mother Doris continues to power along. She recently passed her annual driving test, which allows her to keep driving until her next test at age 95. Her Table Tennis has not taken her far from home (comparatively) with a trip to Japan in June and Canberra. At both events she was the oldest competitor and she received a lot of attention from the media. She was filmed and interviewed in Canberra and the segment formed part of the Sydney ABC nightly news publicity you can buy!""
