H.I.S. 2009 World Table Tennis Championships

Sharara Re-Elected / Day of Joy for Germany
Canada's Mr. Adham SHARARA was re-elected for further four year term as
ITTF President. SHARARA retained his position with an overwhelming majority
over Alaor Gaspar Pinto AZEVEDO of Brazil. The Annual General Meeting of
the International Table Tennis was held during the third day of competition
at the H.I.S. 2009 World Table Tennis Championships in Yokohama, Japan.
Germany Host of the 2012 World Championships
The 2012 World Team Table Tennis Championships will be held in the German
city of Dortmund; thus the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) will host
another World Championship after the event was staged in Bremen 2006.
The Newly Elected ITTF Executive Committee :
The Executive Committee (EC) of the ITTF was extended from 7 to 9 members,
the largest ever elected in the history of ITTF. Under acclamation Nigeria’s
retiring ITTF Deputy President Mr. George SEGUN was thanked by President
Adham SHARARA for more than a decade of service in the EC; his successor
on the EC from the continent of Africa is Mr. Chérif HAJEM of Tunisia.
Judit FARAGO of Hungary already left the EC in 2008 to take over the ITTF
Competition Department as Director.

Table Tennis Family Grows – 207 Member Associations
The Cayman Islands (new) and Papua New Guinea (reactivated) are the two new
member associations of the ITTF. The table tennis governing body consists
now of 207 associations and belongs to one of the biggest international
federations of the Olympic family.
